What this site is for

Pulling together all the related resources, bringing Gentoo users into one place to talk, giving newcomers a path to solving their problems and veterans a place to swap notes — all to lower the barrier to getting into Gentoo.

About the site’s languages

This site comes in Simplified Chinese and Traditional Chinese.

We use the name “Traditional Chinese” because it emphasizes the heritage and history of the script, not region or politics:

  • Zh = Zhonghua (中华) — the shared cultural root of every Chinese speaker
  • Pinyin uses Latin letters — writing systems have always borrowed from one another; what matters is the heritage they carry
  • Simplified and Traditional are both Chinese — just a different written form of the same language and culture

All Chinese users are welcome to contribute, whichever script you’re used to.

English

The public pages are also available in English, mainly for the gentoo-zh overlay’s overseas users — the overlay has had plenty of users outside the Chinese-speaking world for a while now.

One thing to be upfront about: not everything is in English. For now only the public pages — about, download, mirror list, contributing and the like — are internationalized; most of the technical articles are still Chinese-only. The English here was drafted with translation software and then reviewed and polished by Claude Fable 5 (ultracode) — the best and most expensive model we could find to date — so it may still read a little stiff in places or have the odd slip. Spot something off? Please open an issue or PR on GitHub — corrections are very welcome.
